Trail is completely thawed out. No real need for snowshoes or an ice axe if you're only going to do Wilcox. If you go on to Argentine/Square Top/... then you probably want to take an ice axe as there were a few snow fields where I thought it helped.
The main problem with this trail is all the downed trees. Apparently a huge microburst came through and leveled a huge chunk of the forest, which has made the "standard" route almost impassable. If you decide to do this, then do yourself a huge favor and stay as close to the Square Top side of the Naylor Lake road as possible (near the creek). Walk as much on the road as you can, until you get to the Private Property gate. From there, walk due North (slightly Northeast) following a game trail to the slopes of Wilcox.
If you go on to Square Top, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT descend early into the trees to get back to your car. There's a ton of snow and downed trees. It's absolutely miserable. Save yourself the heartache and walk out to the road and walk down.
