 Report

I climbed the north (main) couloir this morning and had to bail 2/3 the way up (onto the rock rib - not recommended). At ~13,600, I was postholing (if you call it that) to my chest. I essentially rolled into a ball and was able to free myself and gain the rock rib. Snow conditions were atrocious and they got worse as I moved further and further UP the couloir.

The main couloir is the only one with continuous coverage (C couloir is long gone), but the conditions were bad...

Descended normal route. Don‘t bother with an axe, glissading window has closed too...

thank you for the update     2012-06-03 18:46:55
A few questions:
1) what time did you start on the couloir
2) what time the postholing commenced
3) what were overnight temps (if you know)
4) would it be possible to follow the rock rib to the summit after bailing from the couloir?

you gave me the image of your giant self rolling into a ball to get out of deep snow. Nice to see you knock of Missouri.

Mr. Fletch (James, right?)

Conditions you described are very similar to what we encountered on the same face last year. I am hoping to ski Missouri next weekend, so I will be adjusting the start time accordingly.
