Happy to report that there is snow in those hills! Summer TH access is good, 6-8in at start of trail, 8-16in, well over knee in the mid-basin area. The west slopes looked to be in great shape. This peak is however becoming a bit of a nemesis to me. It said, 'you shall not pass today!'

Columbia is a tough one, I had to turn around once before too. Have you tried the SE ridge? There will be snow in the trees but once above tree line it should be mostly windswept.

Good luck.

what made it difficult to pass?

thank you for the report. I am thinking of hiking harvard and columbia (camping at horn fork basin) during xmas with a few friends.
Did you stop because of the weather or the snow pack?

It was just very windy and whiteout conditions once I got on the shoulder of the ridge. Then I wimped out and went back to the comfort of the trees.
