Wow! Absolutely ridiculous!!!! They close the road 4.6 miles before the landslide! The 8.25 mile hike becomes a 22+ mile hike. I hiked 7 miles up the road and still hasn't reached a trailhead. Not being mentally or physically prepared for this long of a hike, I grudgingly turned around. Someone needs to petition for this road to be opened up waaaay further up the road. It's absolute politics and bullshit.

BagginPeaks	nah 9/8/2015 11:46am not politics and bullshit, its just private property. the public parking area which is 1.5 miles before the gate is on SWA lands. After that up to the FS boundary is all private and there’s no legal parking on the roadway. EDIT: a guy I saw that rode his bike up from the parking area had a GPS and he said it was 7.2 to the upper TH so you were right there!
