Condition Update

Conditions on Mount Cameron were very good- dry and without snow. This is a very LARGE summit with enough room to just about play a short game of flag football! The trail leading up to its summit from Mount Democrat is well defined including a few cairns to make sure you stay on-course. There are a couple of false summits, so don't get too excited too soon! I did not find any evidence of a USGS dated elevation marker, and there is no register at the top. There is, what looks like, a section of a lodgepole pine tree that's pretty weathered which shows Cameron's elevation that you can use in your summit picture to prove you were there.

USGS markers

There is a good reason why you were not able to find a USGS marker on Mount Cameron. There is none. You can find which summits have markers and their location, description, and whether they have been found recently (or have gone missing). All the information for each marker is in the "Datasheet". Go to the National Geodetic Survey Data Explorer at URL: http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/NGSDataExplorer/.
Best regards.
Mike.

Thanks for the great info on the USGS Geodetic data sheets. I didn't know these things existed! Looks like Democrat has one, but I sure didn't see it. I've bookmarked this website for future. Appreciate your feedback!!
