 Report

Great conditions right now. Avy danger at present is about as low as it gets in this area. The track is well packed out all the way. We stayed in the rocks at the headwall around 13,000, but there were a lot of ski turns in the left and right gullies.

Edit: We took the ridge up and back, regaining the Castle summit on the return.

Thanks for the report...any chance you've got a photo. Thinking about try to ski it next weekend.

Pretty busy with things right now but will try to get a TR up in a few days. There were definitely a lot of ski tracks, though with the warm temps the snow was changing fast. If you need the summit, it's worth doing. If you're just going to ski, probably not. Hope that helps. Photos soon. Thx.

RT Length?     2011-12-31 13:17:32
Jim, do you have a rough figure on the RT length for this climb, or how far you can get up the road in a AWD vehicle with moderate clearance? Only been up there in the summer but this elusive opportunity is very tempting...thanks for any beta!

Hey!     2011-12-31 13:22:31
Yeah, we figured probably 16 miles RT. But felt longer. Can't get past Ashcroft due to a gate, if I remember right.

Hey, let me know how you guys do! Totally awesome you're considering it. Be aware that the winds may have done some additional loading on mostly east aspects since we were there.

Thanks Jim! Great to hear you guys got this done. If the conditions stay this way I'm sensing another big winter from you.

I dunno, Robert. These are getting harder and scarier... I'll see what I can do.
