2013-01-07  Route: North Ridge
Info: Snowshoes very helpful from just past the Iowa Mill...until the "nipple". I was breaking through to my knees even when following the snowmobile and skin tracks. Kept the snowshoes on past the nipple...all the way to the windblown ridge line... just because the heel lifts on the shoes made a direct line easier. Stashed the snowshoes and switched to microspikes which were nice to have on the harder snow patches along the ridge.

2012-05-22  Route: South Ridge
Info: I did Boreas today, not Bald, so this is a visual report. The south ridge of Bald has more snow than views from the west (Breck, Boreas Pass) may imply. Maybe 70-80% can be avoided but not all of it looks like it can be. I‘d give it another week or so before a direct, dry route melts out. Also see my report for Boreas.

2012-04-10  Route: North Ridge
Info: Dry paved road to start of USFS road; USFS road has snow here and there but 4wd passable (with sliding and lack of skill consequences) to 1/4 mile shy of Iowa Mill; fried sun cups on supportive snow to ridge/sky line; dry hike with avoidable neve here and there to summit; no need for crampons or axe if one stays prudent distance back from upper snowfield lips if crossing neve. link Trip narrative for anyone interested.
