Condition on Mt. Sherman
My friends and I are planning on climbing Mt. Sherman tomorrow (Aug. 29, 2014). We are a little concerned about the trail condition because there has been rain/snow on the mountain in the past few days, according to weather reports. Has anyone been on the mountain the past few days? Is there any snow on the ground? Is the trail slick? Thanks.

Re: Condition on Mt. Sherman
If you ended up going up Sherman today, can you report back on current conditions? My wife and I are debating about it for Sunday or Monday but I'm kind of fearing what the crowds will be like with it being the last holiday weekend of this summer.

You'll be fine - even with several inches of snow (about as much as it snowed anywhere recently) on the trail, Sherman won't give you too much trouble.
In fact, snow might enhance the views! Give it a go - you can always (and should always) turn around if you get uncomfortable with the conditions.

You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know. - Rene Daumal

We did this from Iowa Gulch today and there were some definite slick spots....but if you are careful with your steps you should be fine. The only snow we saw was off the trail and even then, there wasn't much of it.
Hope this helps...have fun if you go !
