As the previous post indicates, the road is closed all summer for logging. As of now it's open to foot, bike, or horse traffic. It appears that the actual logging activity might only be taking place during the week (unfortunately the road stays closed on weekends anyway). Around the 4 mile mark the logging equipment has damaged the road. A light mountain bike works fine through this section. I'd imagine they'll grade it before the road reopens. Te bike ride wouldn't be bad with light packs, but at 8 miles and 2,200 vertical, with ski equipment and overnight gear (and rain), it was tough.
