You can drive to the TH by car. We were in a high clearance SUV but you could drive very slowly with a car all the way to the gate. It‘s completely free of snow at this point, but road is very rough/rocky. We parked a quarter to half mile from the gate and started hiking up the road instead of driving the rest of the way. Very little snow on the trail. Hiked in trail runner New Balance shoes.
