County Road 8 is a six mile stretch of dirt road (Kite Lake Rd.) from Alma, CO. It was dry on Wednesday and could be traveled pretty well with a Chevy Traverse. We made it all the way to the Kite Lake campground upper parking lot, but not without some careful navigation on the last 1/3rd of the road. There are several places that are severely washed out leaving you to be creative in driving around and over the ruts. We did see a number of passenger cars in the lower parking lot, but I can't help thinking that there might have been a few scrapes on the undercarriage in getting there. The Kite Lake campground upper parking lot uses an honor system parking fee of $3. Stop by the sign with the fee box and pickup your fee envelope, fill-out and drop in your money in the slot before you park if there is no traffic. Electrical workers were stringing new lines and installing transformers that day about 3 miles along the way.
