Status Update
Attempted to reach the winter closure trailhead on March 22nd. After the turnoff just south of Fairplay, we traveled about 5 miles to a point where the road was no longer plowed. This point is about the start of the Fourmile Creek slough. We busted unplowed, hard crusted, 12 - 24 inch deep snow for about 2.5 miles. We had two SUVs, one with chains, both with reasonable clearance. We reached the Horseshoe Site and could not proceed any further. This was at 39*12.213‘N, 106*05.240‘W, and elevation of 10550ft. We took off hiking about 3 miles short of the Leavick mine.
