Boulder Mtn, Mt. Mamma and Grizzly Mtn Combo

Trailhead elevation: 9440 ft.
Starting time: 6:00 am
Ending time: 2:45 pm
Peaks: Boulder Mtn, Mt. Mamma, Grizzly Mtn.
Mileage: 17 miles

The day started from a trailhead near Alpine Lake, just south of Mount Princeton. This road leads to the Mt. Antero trails. We hiked for about two hours up a very rocky road until we reached treeline. Stunning views of Princeton and Antero on the way up. The road continues most of the way up Boulder Mtn but we cut across to the top to save time. Reached the top of Boulder at 8:30. It is about 6.5 miles from the trailhead. Didn't encounter any snow whatsover at this point. Continued on to Mt. Mamma. The traverse was about an hour long and not too arduous. Again, no snow to be encountered. After a few minutes at the top we started the traverse to Grizzly. The weather wasn't looking too favorable but we pushed on to the top of Grizzly. This was the hardest traverse, involving steep boulder climbs and some loose rock. We went down the eastern slopes before going down to avoid the storm. Very rough and steep descent of loose boulders. We arrived at Baldwin Lake and from here it was rather smooth sailing along a rocky road. Met up with the Mt. Antero road and arrived back at our vehicle. The mount Antero road is very popular with 4wd and off road vehicles, we met several Jeeps and 4wheelers along the way. All in all a great hike, great scenery and solitude.

a great ridge route. We did Cyclone, Carbonate, Carbolite and Cronin last summer...we tried to get over to Grizzly from Carbolite but the loose rock and late time in the day prevented us from having a go.

cheers,
