I still can't believe what a bluebird day we all had! It was so nice being in the San Juans.

”We enjoyed soaking up the titillating late afternoon views as we dropped down the ridge...Tree belays, slip and slides, and balet pirouettes on dinner plate talus ensued.” = best quotes!

Great recap and photos Kevin Baker!

Thank you. I now have another swear to add to my vocabulary. But I don't know, f**k this, or something similar sounds and feels better to say!

Nice one folks!
And Caroline, oh my what long arms you have! Cool group shot on the summit. But someone is missing in it?

Nice!     2012-06-20 07:38:00
Well done!! I have been to this TH once and bailed twice while near Lake City - these peaks are quickly becoming my winter nemesis Thinking I may head down one of these weekends and try for these and Handies. Beautiful photos...and 38 winter 14ers Kevin?! my oh my. That is too many!

I agree with Shawn regarding the first 1700 feet off the deck - by far my favorite part of all of Colorado. Hands down.

I think we really pegged this one in terms of the peaks, route, group and day. The weather was fantastic.

@d_baker - Joe W is missing from the summit shot. Photos of Joe W are very rare (and valuable). I have one from Mount Wilson. I heard that only seven exist and three were destroyed in a suspicious fire.

He may be camera shy but he is the ultimate teammate, in my opinion.

I hope we can get this group together again before the vernal equinox. Thanks again for the invite and write up, Kevin.

Yep, my arms are as long as my legs!

I agree with Papillon on getting the group together before winter ends!

Yep best 1700 feet of elevation on a hike and I think more people should do this route just so they get a real Colorado experience.

I am looking forward to getting this group back together for a couple more pre-vernal equinox ho-downs. Let the strong ladies do some more trail breakin'.

trail breakin'     2012-02-14 13:16:00
Shawn: I just ordered some new snowshoes last night to replace those P.O.S. Tubbs that fell apart halfway up the ridge... so I'm all ready for some trail breaking. Just name the place!

Great report, Kevin... brought back fond memories of what has to be one of the finest slogs to treeline in the San Juans.

Oh, and fried chicken is the new Powerbar.

Seeing tr's like this makes me happy to know that the San Juans will ski good this spring. Keep the snow coming. Great pictures and congrats to everyone on the ascent.

Fried Chicken     2012-02-14 18:11:53
How could you compare fried chicken to powerbars and gels? There is no contest. Your culinary tastes seem to have taken a nosedive this winter. What's up?

Nice report and climb........
