 Yale East Ridge

Climbingbiz and I hit the road early and were at the trailhead by 5:30am - the road is paved and plowed all the way to the th. We stopped to strip down to base layers as we got to the top of the switchbacks right as the sun started to come up.

Once we got in the trees the boot packed trail was lost in about 6 inches of snow and was possible to follow at first but soon disappeared. We were using the gpx file posted by geojed and were able to find the solid trail for a few steps here and there just to sink back down to knee-waist deep powder. We soon gave up on finding the trail and took turns blazing our own path up to treeline - Brian, you're a trail breaking machine!

My trench is waiting for you to use and abuse it!

We ditched our snowshoes just above treeline and began our long trek up the ridge .

We got to the summit at 1:00 and just hung out long enough to snap a few pics

We moved fast down the ridge, avoiding some of the hard class 3s we had ascended, but was a lot harder than I think both of us had hoped for. Once we got to back to treeline we got our snowshoes on and the trench we laid on the way up made for an easy walk back to the car. Anyone looking for a good trench should get out there while the weather is still good!

That disappearing trench has turned back a few people in the last month and you guys perservered and did it! Good job! 8) We had it easy with a nice trench to follow the whole way when we did it.

Strong work!

Great day with perfect weather. I can hardly move today but it was worth it. As usual it was great climbing with you.
