Steep turns in the La Sals
Here is a link to my climb and snowboard descent of Mt. Tukuhnikivatz in the La Sal mountains outside Moab. This is one of Chris Davenport's 50 classic ski descent of North America. No intentions of leaving the mountains here. Looks like you have been out a lot recently too. I have been enjoying keeping up with some of your climbs here.
geojed	Good Ol' Mt Tuk 4/2/2012 9:54pm I've always had a fondess in my heart for Mt Tuk ever since I first saw it 15yrs ago on the cover of Kelsey's Utah Mountaineering Guide 3rd Ed.. That North face when covered in snow like in pic #1 above is just so beautiful and aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. 8) 8)
Matt Lemke	Nice... 4/2/2012 10:02pm The same time you climbed and skid Tuk...I was biking the White Rim Trail. I had great views the whole time of the La Sals and always thought to myself ”dang there is no snow compared to last year!”
lordhelmut	Hell yeah 4/3/2012 3:53am I was wondering what the La Sals looked like. Sounds like the perfect ski mountaineering trip, nice campsite and incredible views of the desert below. What a contrasting landscape. Thanks for the Tuk report and way to successfully go down the 50 Classic Descents list. So many great lines along with the spirit of adventure. Is pic 1 from your winter recon or from over the weekend?
taylorzs	Thanks 4/3/2012 6:45am Glad you guys are enjoying the tr. Lord Helmut, the first picture is from my winter recon. I took it on the ridge between Pre-Laurel and Laurel Peaks on the other side of Gold Basin. All other photos are from last weekend.
gb	Tuk 4/3/2012 1:48pm is definitely deserving of classic status. Nothing beats being over the desert like that, not to mention that a reading or re-reading of Desert Solitaire is pretty much mandatory. Good stuff.

taylorzs	Might as well....... 4/5/2012 6:53am Moab is less than a four hour drive drom Avon. It is closer than parts of the Sangres...but the snow is better in the La Sals this season. I am heading to Wyoming (mostly), Monatana, and Idaho for the month of May. I think it will be better than Colorado this year. Got to follow the snow...
kimo	The La Sal special 4/6/2012 4:01am I went up there in late December for Mt. Peale, ended up turning back after reaching Mt. Laurel. It was late in the day and Peale was still so far away. The whole time Mt. Tukuhnikivatz was looming over my right shoulder, the summit moving in and out of wispy clouds. I took over a 1000 pics on that trip because the landscape was just so spectacular and deserved it. A classic for sure. Your report reminds me that I need to return and finish what I started. Thanks for posting.
