Nothing says Cinco de Mayo like...

... Antero and a Dales?

I don't even know what that means... but I figured I'd write a quick TR since the last one written on Antero was back in March.

This was a 15 mile solo mission up the standard route from the 2WD TH off the main county road. As I was hiking, I passed about 3 or 4 downed trees across the road that would have made driving to the 4WD TH quite a challenge.

Having trekked up Princeton with Dancin' Jansen the weekend before in my trail runners and barely hitting any snow, I wasn't really sure what to expect on Antero. Not quite the same, but not too bad at all for May. I had to go up and around a few snow hills on the route above treeline and there was some minor post holing around treeline on the way back down as it got warmer, but all in all, nothing major.

most of the route was snow free up to the stream crossing. Once the trees are cleared this will be 4WD driveable.

Looks like an ideal time to do Antero- long before the crazy 4-wheeler people start populating the slopes.

I'm surprised you didn't go for the Antero - Denali - Oskar Blues traverse. Then again, a Deviant is almost as good.

Let's get out soon, I feel some speedy Sawatch climbs coming!

Thanks for the trip report. I was debating which of the Sawatch peaks to attempt this weekend. I think I'll go with Antero.
