Phoenix Peak - South Slopes Route

Climbed Phoenix Peak on July 20, starting from just a bit above the 2WD TH. Road in was quick and cut off to the right after Whited Creek was obvious and marked by posts. The route across Willow Creek offered a wet foot and then the trip up the unnamed creek to the Central Stock Driveway offered the opportunity to cross the unnamed creek too soon. I accepted the chance to cross too soon, as others have claimed to have done, and paid the same sidehilling price everyone else paid. Driveway goes hot and cold but is cairned through the fainter portions. From tree line to summit is without trail and ever so nice. No hardcore to be found here, just a walk up through the meadow and thenup to the saddle, here and there on trail segments through the talus. Summit has the cairn of legend, gives a wee bit of confirmation that one has thankfully scored the right hump . . .

Photo 2 is a shot of the beaver downed aspens that you DO want to skirt around the top of if you want to get to the proper creek crossing. The beavers did not go too far up hill so if you want a "signpost" here you go, cross beyond these trees and you get to the proper stream crossing.
