Morning hop, skip, and a jump

Hike of the Day: DeCaLiBron

Left Golden,CO 4:05 am, landed at Kite Lake Trailhead 5:45, and started hike at 5:55. Again expecting weather, my fellow hiker Philip and I just decided we'd hit these 4 peaks early. Our first thought was "Ok, maybe we'll be able to do the hike in 5 hours" (we weren't sure at the time on total distance or elevation gain, but we highly over estimated). We did make sure to get our whichwich bag pictures on all the peaks today for a good lunch .

Peak times: Democrat (5:55-7:13 am), Cameron (7:19-8:01), Lincoln (8:02-8:14), Bross (8:27-8:58 ), Back to Car down Bross (9:09, 9:38 ).

So that was our surprise, we finished car to car in 3 hrs 43 min. Legit!

Now, Philip coming off hiking Longs Peak yesterday thought it may slow him down. But he was feeling great and was charging up the slopes to Democrat at a quick pace. I on the other hand was not feeling too good the first hour of our hike. It really took until our way down Democrat to cross the traverse over to Cameron where I started to warm up and feel better. Let's just say I had a long night 2 nights before ;).

Cameron was interestingly large. The summit is huge probably a hundred yards or more all pretty flat. So we took a hop, skip, and a jump over to Lincoln jogging the downhill across the saddle. We took a longer 13 minute break on Lincoln to take some pictures and talk with some fellow hikers up there. We had the peak to ourselves for about 5 minutes. That was nice. Philip totally lost his handle on my Whichwich bag and chased it down the hill about 40 feet off the east side of Lincoln. I was lucky enough to get a picture of him losing it haha.

Well, we continued then over to Bross which went pretty quickly and stopped for about 10 minutes before heading down. We thought it would take maybe an hour from there to get to the bottom but were not sure. I knew the trail down was a scree trail loose and annoying but I saw it as being somewhat exciting because I've mastered my jump/slide on the scree slope. We saw the other trail across the gulley instead of following the ridge down south bross which we decided to take because it looked more direct. This was probably the funnest/fastest down hike I have ever had on any 14er. The dirt was damp and every step sunk in nicely allowing us to move very fast down the trail with each step sinking/sliding. So much fun, dropped 1000 ft in like 5 minutes. Yes I did have to empty my shoes of pebbles before the bottom but it was worth it. We decided to jog the rest of the way too and were able to make it back to the parking lot by 9:38 am. It was not even 10 am yet. Even better, we could make it back to Golden to get our whichwich sandwiches right at noon which was very satisfying.

I do appreciate hiking a shorter hike this weekend compared to the Halo Ridge last week to bag Holy Cross. Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, and Bross make my 19th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd 14ers with 12 completed this summer. My goal of ten 14ers this summer has been an adventure and I've surged past it. I even have my first Sangre de Cristo's planned for 2 weeks from now. Can't wait!

Cheers for now!
(If my pictures don't upload I apologize they seem to have issues uploading on here, but is most likely just me having issues trying to upload them)

Doesn't mean they don't enjoy it. Nor does it mean they all of a sudden lose their vision and miss out on views.
