 Climbing The Decalibron

I drove to the Kite Lake TH the evening before - 6 miles on a decent-enough dirt road out of Alma. I chose to pay the $12 camping fee, though sleeping in my car, as the upper location is quieter than parking free a little lower. (Day-use parking is $3.)

I set off Thursday at 05:30, using headlamp for first half-hour, on climb to Democrat-Cameron saddle. Summited Democrat at 7:15 (I'm steady but not fast). Then atop Cameron at 9:00 (I say "atop" loosely, as the high point is a some rocks piled together on a very broad ridge). Lincoln is clearly a "peak," topped at 9:20. I then continued on to the Bross summit (10:35). (I was confused a little by the trail signs, as they skirted the peak slightly. It was only after I returned to the TH that I realized the Bross summit is still "closed" - sorry about that.) Back to the TH at exactly noon, for a 6.5-hr loop.

Democrat is very rocky - not suitable for running. The other three are mostly runnable. Very mild weather - forecast was for isolated thunderstorms later in afternoon. Both coming and going, I stopped at the Subway in the Shell station just south of Fairplay.

(This is my first Trip Report here - hope it was helpful.)
