Mt. Democrat, Cameon, and Lincoln from Kite Lake

Arrived trailhead at 8:00am. Drive up Kite Lake Rd was easy to navigate in a car up to the last quarter mile, requiring a short hike to the trailhead.

In spite of the cooler weather, it was quite pleasant all the way up to Mt. Democrat. Climb took about 2 hours and was not overly strenuous. On to Cameron.... by the time I backtracked down to the saddle with Cameron the wind had picked up and would be a factor the rest of the day above 13,000. Wore a fleece jacket and gloves most of the remainder of the climb to Cameron, Lincoln, and the loop that bypasses Bross summit. Climbing down the Bross trail was a bit tough due to the sudden elevation loss and loose scree but was quicker than going back across Cameron and down the Democrat trail. The entire trip took a little over 6 hours, which included a 15 or 20 minute rest on the Democrat summit.

Since reopening this trail they have done a great job with trail markers. Virtually impossible to get off trail unless you're determined to do so.

Also want to mention a storm that kicked up around 12pm. Thundered a bit but blew over. Then got light rain around 2:00 descending Bross. Otherwise a nice albeit hazy day due to lingering smoke.

This is a great opportunity to bag 2 14ers in an easy to moderately difficult hike (depending on your condition and acclimation to high altitudes). If you're new to climbing, start early and take your time.

I met a hiker that made Cameron summit but gave up on Lincoln. Cameron is almost 2 hours from Democrat, but Lincoln is only another 15 or 20 minutes further and not too bad of a climb. Looks daunting but not so much. The landscape between the two peaks is stark, flat, and desolate yet beautiful. Like a Martian landscape.
