 Mountain Lions near Trail Head

The beginnings of hikes can be so boring. But, not this one. Fifteen minutes after leaving the safety of my camping spot we came upon two mountain lions that appeared to be afraid of the light from my trail buddy behind me. Luckily Fred, who I just met at the trail head the night before had a massively bright head lamp. So, at 5 in the morning you better keep your eyes open for whatever might be sleeping on the trail.

The trees that I expected to be blocking the trails had all been moved and or cut up to make the trail easier to find than my first hike up Shavano. This was my second trip up.

Above treeline, I also spotted big horn sheep and a small herd of mountain goats.

The weather up was awesome and I was able to get Tab with the help of having others to keep me from quitting the hike. Thanks to you all.

One of my friends asked about pictures of the mountain lions. Right, gotta remember that in the future. Take camera to scare of those big cats in the future.

No doubt rather exciting. I believe I saw one too a few years back, my blood pressure was up for sure. Trying not to rain on the parade here, honostly. However please consider removing this TR and reposting it as a new thread that I'm sure would get a lot of replies and attention, or as a conditions report. Complaints of clutter on the TR page lately if you've followed.

Nothing could scare me more     2012-08-20 13:37:22
I don't think anything would scare me more than a mountain lion on the trail. This is primarily because I hike alone - way too much!
However, great suggestion about the camera. I'm pretty sure they believe it steals their soul and thus would flee when you whip it out.
