 September Bierstadt Perfection!

I've been hiking for 20 years in Colorado and I typically hike high 12K & 13K peaks to avoid crowds but about a month ago I decided to take a friend from Australia up a 14er so she would be able to have a unique Colorado experience to brag about to the Aussies back home. Another friend (a 14er virgin as well) along with my husband decided to join us so we did several training hikes to prepare and selected September 8th to hike Mt. Bierstadt.

You never know when selecting a day to hike weeks in advance what type of weather you will run in to, however this turned out to be an unbelievably perfect day.

We reached the trailhead at 8am and both parking lots were already full. At the parking lot the temp was 37 degrees and the sun was just coming over the peaks warming up the air around us. You could see lots of people heading down the trail through the marshy area. I was hoping to see a moose however I knew we were likely too late to catch them.

The trail is in fantastic condition especially considering the amount of traffic it receives over the course of the year. We made our way down to the stream, carefully navigated the icy rocks to cross, and began the climb up.

There was a steady stream of people going in both directions on the trail. Everyone was in good spirits and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Once you get up to around 12,000 feet the trail gets much steeper and we took more breaks.

We reached the rocky part of the trail and made our way up to the summit.

Sitting on top of Mt. Bierstadt with 200 or our closest friends! It's crowded, but tons of fun to be at the top. I love sitting on mountain tops enjoying the views. It always makes me feel such a sense of accomplishment. We made it up to the summit in about 2 and a half hours.

On the way down the sun lit up the shrubs and grasses which are just starting to show the fall colors. It was absolutely gorgeous.

I always feel so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place when I'm out hiking.

We had a fantastic hike and even though it's crowded I would recommend hiking Mt. Bierstadt to anyone that wants the joy of being on top of a 14,000 foot mountain without a ton of work to get there.
