James Peak via St. Mary's Glacier

James Peak from St. Mary's Glacier Trip Report
Sept 21, 2012

Trip went like clockwork:
Depart TH: 7:30AM.
At Summit: ~10:55 AM
Depart summit: 11:40AM
At TH: 2:30 PM
Round trip time: 7 hrs even.
8.6 miles by one GPS and 8.3 by another GPS
staying on the trail all the way to the summmit.

Weather was absolutely perfect but visibility was very hazy,
due to the forest fires in Wy, Mt, Id, etc., even at the summit.
Totally cloudless all day.
It was a bit breazy on and off all day but not bad.

St. Mary's Glacier itself is almost gone.
Just a couple small patches left.
But as we were hiking out,
there were 2 guys hiking up with skiies.
I asked them if they are desperate or hardcore?
They said a little of both!

I had never climbed James Pk in the summer with no snow so
I was pleasantly surprised to find an excellent trail
from the plateau at the base of the peak all the way to the summit.

Another great day in the mountains.
