My Husband and I climbed the Decalibron for the first time! We actually decided to climb the peaks in reverse order. (Bross to Lincoln to Cameron to Democrat) We loved the fact that we had nobody trailing behind us the entire way! It was nice to go at our own pace and enjoy the hike. We started up Bross at 600 a.m.. The weather was chilly all the way up. We had double layers on for most of the hike. I can't express enough how cold it was at the top! Our hands and limbs were ice cubes. I blame it on the WIND!!! Maybe it was only this particular day, but the winds were probably close to 40-50 MPH. Other than the horrible winds, the hike was amazing. We climbed all four peaks at a relatively moderate pace and got back to the trailhead at about 200 p.m.. (this includes about 20 minute breaks at the top of each peak) Overall I would estimate that it took us about 6-7 Hrs to complete the loop. The views from each peak are unbelievable. The pika were out in numbers and the Marmots were scarce. We did see a family of Marmots on the way down at on old pile of wood. Kite lake is a beauty also. If you are looking to camp (we just car camped below the trailhead) there is a camping area next to kite lake. Always remember to hike early to avoid those afternoon rain/snow showers. As we opened up our car door to head home, it started to snow, in AUGUST! Higher elevations mean unpredictable weather. We had a trip to remember! The best part was revealing to everyone that we are expecting a baby in 2014! Hopefully Baby 14er is born to hike!
