Mt. Bierstadt - West Slopes |
Mt. Bierstadt was my first completed 14er. I have had the 14er fever for some time now and finally reached the summit. I realized very quickly that there are no easy climbs that come with this fever, eventhough some of them look more simple than others.
Anyway, left house in Lone Tree, CO at 4:30am and reached the parking lot atop Guanella Pass at 6:00am - just as planned. Started hiking at 6:10am. Wow, what an awesome morning. Looked like there was a decent hail storm that came through the day before. The lower trails were dry except the wood bridges had some ice covering them and the upper trails had compacted hail on the trail. Reached the summit at 8:45 - not bad for this old man. Lot of people on trail and at the summit. While enjoying my summit time with an ice cold barley pop, more and more people showed up at the summit. It was a party!!! After 45 minutes enjoying the views, I headed back down to the parking lot.
What a way to start the 4th of July.
Sorry 'bout the sideways photos......help me out here?
