Brett and I Started off to climb Ellingwood Ridge on La Plata peak around 4:30.
Finding the small trail that took us to the ridge was tough, but eventually we found our way past treeline.
After breaking treeline it was apparent that we had missed the start of the ridge.
We made our way toward the ridge and found a good looking gully to scramble up.
The gully was a bit rotten but staying to the sides provided solid rock.
After a good ways of scrabbling we had made it to the top of Ellingwood ridge.
Our first obstacle was in sight and we were excited for our first little taste of climbing for the day.
La Plata became more and more visible the more we traversed across the ridge.
Many of the towers on the route were too difficult to descent without a rappel so we were constantly having to skirt different parts of the ridge, making for a tiresome up and down trek.
We had made a good amount of progress and continued further around the back side of the ridge.
Our next goal was in sight: summiting East La Plata peak
After our summit on the east sub peak, a look back at the ridge shows that we had made a good amount of progress.
After a long arduous day of climbing a short scramble proved to be all we had left to reach the summit.
Elligwood ridge had tested our route finding skill and physical ability the whole way but had finally reached the summit.
A look over at the ridge shows what we had accomplished that day.
A nasty storm had moved in for our descent, but don't worry no climbers were harmed during the making of this trip report haha.

Image #13 is about as far as my friends & I got before getting hailed out a couple summers ago (had to rappel down into the La Plata Basin)... I will come back and get this route someday! You going for the list of 73 now?
Never mind, I just saw an update posted about 20 min ago that says the trailhead is now open.
