 Huron Peak, July 21, 2014

I left Aurora at 2AM, travelled via I-70 through Leadville, and arrived at the 2WD parking area at 5:15AM. Started walking up the 4WD road and was shortly picked up by a couple of nice guys from Wisconsin. We drove to the trailhead in their 4WD rental, and I started hiking at around 5:45AM. An enjoyable hike to the summit, not very difficult due to lots of switchbacks. Summit at 8:30AM, my earliest ever. Made it back to the trailhead by 11:15AM after several photo stops along the way, and alas, my younger and faster Wisconsin friends were long gone, so I had to walk back to the 2WD parking area, which took another 45 minutes. A great hike, with great views, probably the easiest of the 17 fourteeners I have done. Returned to Denver via US285 through Buena Vista, which is a bit faster, but more stressful since it is a 2-lane road most of the way.

Was just up there on 7/18. I've never seen so many marmots in my life!
