 Crestone Needle in the Autumn

It felt great to get back to Colorado to climb one of my all-time favorite mountains - Crestone Needle with one of my all-time favorite people, Sarah Musick.

As always, the full Trip Report is over on my website, including over 50 photos and some decent fall colors shots from the day after our climb.

Here are a few shots from the trip:

Hey, that's Sarah from the Yeti Betis ! I'm usually eating her dust at mountain bike races. She is an extremely talented rider and wicked fast ! I didn't realize she climbs too.

Yep, that's the one. She's my best friend :-) She was with me when I finished in 2012.

Thanks for your trip report, Matt. I enjoyed reading it, and especially enjoyed looking at the pictures. You were able to get some great ones! Your experience sounds very similar to mine when climbing the Needle for the first time this summer... Fortunately, we arrived late enough that we missed the rain the night before. When we hiked, we were below the clouds at first, but became socked in as we ascended the steeper part of the Needle. Fortunately, a few people coming down directed us as to where we would cross over into the west gully, and found finding wasn't too bad after that. We were also socked in at the summit, only having a small, short opening looking NE. When we got back down to the lakes, the sky cleared a bit as on your trip, and we were able to see the Needle.

The next day, I climbed Crestone Peak. It was incredible!! There were some clouds, but they burned off just as I was summiting, so I had incredible views in all directions. Coming down, the clouds enclosed the summit of the peak again. I had done Humboldt earlier in the summer (late June), and enjoyed incredible views from there. Some of my favorite 14ers, those three!!
