The 14ers Ethics Council just released a statement saying Pikes Peak summit descents don’t count this year unless you ski off the summit house roof.

I’ve had the same thought though not until now have I been tempted to ski the E. Face. If you want to hit pikes this weekend let me know!

Considering doing same thing tomorrow. Did you have any slide concerns?

moneymike – I agree, someone more skilled with tricks than me needs to get up there and throw a 360 off the roof to get some more swag points

joslyn57 – I may be down for Pikes again, but I was thinking about trying to hit the railroad couloir or Y down to the bottomless pit and take that trail back to Barr Camp or out to Elk Park (starting there = less hiking).. Or do the hero traverse over to the Y for a little tougher hike
BCDave – Good luck Saturday! Get that line before the sun and warm temps do. If you would be down for the hero traverse or Y/railroad at some point send me a PM, those are still on my list

Giddy Up – No slide concerns the day I went, but that was two weeks ago, so I would look for more recent updates on the conditions up there with the recent warmer temperatures and snow that they have gotten in the past couple weeks. The east face of Pikes wasn’t holding near as much snow as the other 14ers even though Pikes has been getting the same amount of snow, seems to get blown off more. The only section that could be a slide risk would be the very top chutes for the first couple hundred feet from the railroad tracks, and there wasn’t really any slide risk on the hike from the Crags.
