 Weminuche Dozen

(Besides the 10 peaks listed, we also hiked Leviathan and Hunchback Mtn.)

My first taste of the Weminuche was with Furthermore in 2011, then I returned for Wham Ridge and the Trinity Traverse in 2012, but the great romp of peaks between Storm King and Jagged would have to wait for a couple of years, mainly because of the legendary fickleness of the weather in this area. Finally, Ben (Benners) and I hit it this August, after reserving two different blocks of PTO to account for the vagaries of the monsoon season.

Hitting 12 peaks in 5 days from Denver, here's the itinerary we realized, in an order slightly different than envisioned:

Day One: Denver to Beartown, hike down Vallecito trail and up Leviathan Creek. NOTE: Don't aim for Leviathan Lake, instead, strike for the northern side of the basin and look for a trail (unmarked on the quad) that leads westward from the opening to the small side basin for the south faces of Silex-Guardian, paralleling the Peak Nine ridge.
Day Two: Jagged, Leviathan, Vallecito.
Day Three: Peak Seven, Nine, Storm King, Peak Six.
Day Four: Silex, Guardian, pack up and hike out Leviathan, up Vallecito to falls on the upper trail.
Day Five: Hike to Hunchback Pass. Hunchback Mtn, White Dome, One, pack to Beartown and drive back to Denver.

Here are some highlights of the views. I am convinced Weminuche is Ute for Paradise.
