 Beautiful day on Bierstadt

Image

Beautiful climb with my good friend Jess.....her 2nd 14er summit ever!!! Chilly start to the day....18 degrees. Nothin' but sunshine in the forecast tho! It warmed up nicely. Our times were really quick. Actually the fastest 14er I've ever done. We packed and dressed very light.
Image

Start at 8:20. 3 groups ahead of us we saw in the parking lot when we arrived.
Image

Marshes were well frozen over.....a little ice and frost on the wooden platforms. Very nice addition from the muddy trail this once was!! Thanks maintenance guys!

Out of the marshes and into the flats. Trail was well traveled and beat down all the way to the top.

Warming up, had to shed some clothes and take in the scenery.

Such a diva!

The summit awaits.

Looking back.

Just started pitching up a little and some accumulation to walk through.

It steadily got more steep.

The temps were starting to drop again. By this point we had passed everyone we saw starting before us. Came across the two guys who were the first to summit, they said it was clear sailing all the way up.

Reached the scree around 10:20.

Summit by 10:50. Found a little nook out of the wind to grab some food. Temps were in the negatives.....we didn't stay long.
Image

Summit was incredibly beautiful!
Image

All wrapped up like an Eskimo! Jess put micro-spikes on for the decent.....smart move as it was a little slippery with our speed, which we pushed.
Image

Freezing by now.....ready to drop down to some warmth.
Image

Phones froze after a couple pics so limited on the way down until we could thaw them out. We thawed as well. Temps warmed up really quickly with lower altitude....we were actually amazed with the difference after 15-20 mins of decent. We ran a few of the miles until my calf cramped up from a slip in the snow. (just trail running shoes for me all the way up and down.......should've had micro-spikes as well but sometimes I'm stubborn and foolish)
Image

OMG it was soooo beautiful........we were so excited!! Jess could hardly contain herself!
Image

We were back to the lot by 11:50......temps in high 40's and mid 50's by the time we got to Georgetown for lunch. Super quick but beautiful and fun workout!! So proud of you Jess!!
