Climbed Columbia alone on Wednesday, using the standard route published here. I nearly got blown into the Atlantic Ocean while at the top. Frigid gusts were easily 45 MPH! Yowser! I wore every piece of clothing I had!
The main mountain above treeline was completely snow-free except for a small patch at the base and a couple of fields along the gaps between the false peaks. These were easily circumvented on the final approach to the summit.
In the upper woods, however, there is still plenty of snow. My gaiters sure did come in handy as I post-holed a lot on the return trip. (The snow had softened in the afternoon.) Many drifts are still 3 ft deep in the woods.
Harvard still has a lot more snow in the upper basin and on the main slopes. I suspect it will be a bit slower going for the next few weeks.
