 Princeton - 5/28/05

I drove up to Mt. Princeton road on Friday evening. I was a bit worried that with it being Memorial Day weekend, I wouldnt be able to find any parking up near the radio towers. I went ahead and took my chances. It turns out that I was the only one up there on Friday night. I set camp and turned in at about 8:00.

Left camp at about 4:30 am on Saturday morning. The hike up the road was very gentle and easy - a good warm up. Past the radio towers, the road was clear of snow for about 1/2 mile or so. After that, there were some spots that were covered with snow that would make crossing with a truck not possible, but you could get through by walking on the very edge of the road without touching the snow at all.

After breaking treeline, I began looking for the trail exit off of the road. Turns out it was covered in snow, so I couldnt find it. So, I just started heading up the hill and eventually ran into the trail. The trail was mostly snow-free, with the exception of 3 snow fields that had to be crossed. Postholing was not any of them during my ascent.

The ridge between tigger and Princeton is completely snow free and was a nice walk. Overall, the ascent was pleasant. I summited at about 7:00 am.

The descent was pretty unenventful. I postholed a few times in the snowfield closest to the summit, but that was it. Overall, it was a very nice climb!
