I did Yale yesterday. Id call the ridge easy 2. Its mostly rockhopping, occasionally using your hands for balance. I guess you could make it class 3 if you wanted, though, and I agree it was fun. 
Gerry Roachs book makes it sound like the trail up to Yale is a bit hard to find, but theres a sign a bit more than a mile in from the trailhead. If anything the problem is there are "too many" trails in places, especially up the last stretch to the ridge. This has resulted in a lot of erosion, sadly. I hope future hikers try to stick to the route with all the switchbacks.
Absolutely stunning day. I swear I could see all the way to the San Juans to the southwest.
