 From Yankee Boy Basin - 6-05-05   

Drove to ouray in 5 hours from Denver on Saturday, camped at 10,700. Strong freeze, temp was 24 degrees at 5 am at 10,700. Started at 11,100. We knew we had a while before the avy danger picked up so we hiked very slowly, nice and relaxing. Snow the entire way to the summit. Used crampons and ice axe from Lavander Col to the summit (highly recommended). The "V-notch" has a cornice in it, so we used a slightly higher class 3 rock pitch reach the final pitch. Summit around 11, glissaide down, drive back to Boulder. Three other groups of skiers were up there too. Great day, amazing views, long drive.
