| Dyer, Gemini, Sherman via Iowa Gulch - 10-22-05 |
Nice route. Started around 11000 at the fork in the road. Climbed Dyer via its southeast slopes, then onto Gemini and Sherman. Descent of Sherman Sheridan saddle gully back to Iowa Gulch. Lots of snow above treeline as of yesterday (10-22) so bring snowshoes. The front range peaks didnt seem to be quite as covered as the Sawach and Tenmile/Mosquito. High winds (sustained 45mph on the ridge to the sherman sheridan saddle) made things interesting. As of now, avy danger is minimal and avoidable with good route finding.
This was a nice reminder that climbing in soft snow requires a whole heck of a lot more energy than summer conditions.
