Mt. Yale via Denny‘s Creek TH |
Began at 5:00am, as the weather forecast looked like early storms were a possibility. The first 30 minutes were with a headlamp, but the trail was clear, the sign at 1.25 mile also clearly pointed to Mt. Yale.
After reaching the saddle at 13,900', it helps to stay on the west side of the ridge, look for trail segments and small cairns, and the 1/4 mile to the summit and back will be much easier (than if you followed the ridge).
Ascent was about 3.75 hrs, and descent was 2.5 hrs. I spent about 20 minutes on the summit - but the visibility was very poor. After about 13,600', the fog had thickened, and visibility became about 50'. It remained this way until well into my descent - unfortunately keeping me from the 360 I so enjoy at the summit.
Note: although the TH parking lot was completely full at 5:00am, there wa only 2 other hikers that reached the summit before I did, so I suppose all the other hikers were backpacking in to the lake, or beyond.
