 pirate sightings on silverheels

I‘ve been wanitng to hit silverheels all winter long, but it never came around. With the fine weather we had on saturday, we couldn‘t pass up the chance.

the trip started out uneventful, arriving at the turnout on Hwy 9 at 6:00am. after sunscreen and loading up we were off.

the bushwack was tedious, steep, and loose.

after crossing the second jeep trail, we headed over the crest of beaver ridge and began the descent.

on hindsight I would recommend that anyone wishing this peak from the west side to push further north up the road into the basin and attempt the next ridge in, and not the west ridge.
we followed a willow free line down and out, that was not obvious on the way in.

after 30 min. of postholing through snow fields and willow bashing we began the next phase of long, steep, loose, talus hiking.

the views to the west were awesome, but nothing compared to the view from the summit looking south...what a big mountain.

we never found the summit register, but there were sightings of pirates.
