Grays and Torreys - Stevens Gulch

Guide book (Roach) and 14er.com directions are accurate. The road to the trailhead is rough but there were several sedans that made it. We did not see any evidence of oil pan ruptures or mufflers on the road.

The trail is well-marked and in excellent condition up to Grays. There is one short snow field to cross but it was not difficult. It was two hours of steady climbing to the top.

The trail over to Torreys is steep but clear and snow-free. It took forty minutes to make the peak-to-peak traverse.

On the descent, there is one snow field coming off Torreys. Again, it was simple to cross. The travel time from peak to trailhead was one hour and thirty-five minutes.

The alpine flowers are as good as I have seen them. We saw three mountain goats on Torreys. Great hike. Total elapsed time including breaks was five hours and thirty minutes. This is a hike I will do again.
