 Lindsey via NW ridge

I drove over from doing Little Bear, Blanca, & Ellington Point the day before and arrived at trail-head by 6pm. I was able to start the hike from huerfano trail-head by 4:45am and ended up loosing the trail a couple times. I reached the meadow up high around first light and could see the tip of Lindsey in the distance.

I had decided to go for the more solid rock along the north west ridge instead of the scree gully. From far away the face looked daunting, but the closer you get the easier it starts to appear.

I reached the ridge between The Iron Nipple and Lindsey, and i followed the ridge until it began to drop toward the scree gully.

At this point, I began to scramble toward the base of the semi exposed ridge. I studied the three different routes illustrated on this website and decided for the middle path. This was not the easiest path, but I was sure it would be more fun climbing up the cracks.

This is a pic right at the base of the face (its not really steep once you get there). At the top of the face it consisted of some scrambling on really solid rock. I reached the top, or I thought, only to find it a false summit. The real summit was only about a 100 meter away with an excellent trail leading to it.

The view was awesome with Little Bear, Blanca, and Ellingwood in the background. I hung out and ate something and took some pics.

I decided to take the scree gully down figuring it to be quicker. I am sooooo glad I took the face route over that gully. I knew there was a guy from Grand Junction somewhere behind me and he was going up this. i tried so hard not to kick anything loose, but I still started a nasty small slide that gained momentum and knocked loose boulders the size of my torso that didn't stop until the bottom of the basin!! Luckily he was still below the ridge!! The rest of the hike was enjoyable.

I was able to see a lot of views that I missed on the was up. On a bad note: When you cross the huerfano river there is a log crossing upstream about 15 meters with a dead deer decomposing in the logs (underwater).

I only tell us this to prevent the same mistake that I made by filling your water bottle 10 meters downstream in the dark on the way up. Trust me, I turned white that instant!
