 Mt. Elbert - Northeast Ridge

Camping: There are a ton of dispersed campsites along Halfmoon Creek/Road, just make sure you get into the National Forest. We got there Friday night and it was very crowded, but we were able to find a spot.

Getting there: I had no problem getting to the trailhead with my low clearance 2WD car.

Trail: Excellent trail that is very easy to follow. I did make one little mistake by the first false summit by scrambling up to the top instead of wrapping around it to the right along the trail. I wasted some energy on that move, but I love to scramble.

The false summits are a killer as somebody else‘s trip report says.

My hike:
Start: 6:30 am
Summit Elbert: 10:30 am
Depart Elbert: 10:45 am
Back to car: 1:00 pm
Total hike: 6 hours 30 minutes

Football season is just around the corner, so I had to haul my Eagles jersey to the top of the tallest peak in Colorado. Go Birds!
