What a great day for a climb! And our first two 14er's to boot. We were a little concerned about potentially bad weather before heading out but we kept a close eye on the forum reports and the local weather and things were just spectacular. Since we are newbies to the 14er quest, we chose to start at the Steven's Gulch trailhead. Not a cloud in the sky, and not too cold either, temperature wise. The wind chill on top of Gray's was low enough that we had to add layers of clothing during our stay at the summit. Down through the saddle and over on Torrey's it was not nearly as cold. Still windy but not cold enough for another layer. We descended the saddle and then down the Torrey's trail. No new snow yet. Several spots on the trail had old snow that was well packed and easily walked. It got a little slick in places on the way down after the sun had had a chance to warm/melt the crusty snow. We saw two sets of Mother/young Mountain Goats on the way up Gray's trail. That must be one of the benefits of hitting the trail early.

Very nice! I especially enjoy the protruding Rascal Summit photo! You called it ”Stop along Gray's”. I'm suprised that the gentleman did it in shorts...Brrrrr!!
