 Masked Marauder meets Mt. Bierstadt

Up: 2 1/4 hrs
Down: 2 hrs

Pretty new to all of this but thought I‘d share a nice hike on a beautiful day.

Took off from Colorado Springs hitting some pretty thick fog west of Denver at around 0600 and made it up Guanella Pass around 0700 after driving through a little packed snow (didn‘t need 4wd in my Tacoma) but boy do those pot holes hurt. Almost thought I ruptured a spleen but I hiked off the pain. The full moon really lit up the entire area and had me regretting not starting earlier but I was hoping to get some sun during the hike, which I started at about 0730 (Image 1).

The path was easy to follow except towards the top where I had to follow the footprints that tended to diverge now and then. I did see some Ptarmigan‘s! (Image 2) I ended up bringing a little too much clothing but that‘s better than the alternative.

Hit the peak around 0945 and enjoyed a gorgeous view. Way down was perfect and warm. (Image 3) Actually, got a little sloppy with the snow melt but a ton of fun! Just want to say thanks to all those that put in trip reports as they really help me prep before hittin a peak. Now I gotta figure out which one I‘m doin Saturday, anyone been up Quandry‘s lately?

The Masked Marauder bags another! (Image 4)
