 Uncompaghre - Nellie Creek

Start Time: 7:45AM
Summit Time: 1:00PM
End Time: 4:30PM
Who: Me and csuram

4WD recommended! We tried to get a Subaru Legacy up a little ways, and it ended up costing a muffler. The rocks aren't so bad on this road, but clearance is still fairly important.

Besides, even if you can get your car part way up, you'll soon encounter a creek crossing and some lovely ice.

Ample parking at the actual TH though...

Finally a view of our summit!

To mix things up, csuram and I decided to take different routes through the snow.

Near the summit, the route dried up for us.

Beautiful summit! Uncompaghre has some spectacular views of the San Juans.

And a bit of exposure too!

Another great day at 14K.

The snow was still very doable all along the route. Again we had the mountain to ourselves all day, though we did pass one group headed up late in the afternoon.

Great day out!

I was hoping to get down there and do Uncompahgre before the snow flies, but couldn‘t work out a ride. Congrats on the hike.
