Big Weekend

Kevin,

I‘ll be honest, having been up both ridges more than once I will say that I‘m not doing them back to back like that. Congratulations, that was a big weekend in anyone‘s book. Sorry I didn‘t get high enough to help a little more with the snowbusting. Aren‘t those little scrambles on North Zapata a good time

a pretty cool idea for a weekend trip in the Sangres, little bit of everything from falls, to a small dune desert to some cliffs and peaks. I will say though, I don‘t share the same sentiments regarding the Zapata Falls Road. I mean, its not a 4wd road, but its so washboarded out, real annoying when you spin out and it feels like all the hinges on your car are shaking loose. I guess its more enjoyable than Lake Como, either way, I remember it being not fun.

Cool report with some solid pics, specially the one at the summit of the Dunes.

Zapata Rd

Brian:

I wonder if the road to Zapata Falls has improved since you visited? There were some washboard areas, but nothing that a 2WD couldn‘t handle. I‘ll take washboard over boulders in the road any day!

Pat:
Thanks again for setting us up for access for N. Zapata from the west. I‘m not sure we could have gotten far enough up the Huerfano drainage on the east side for a decent shot at it and there‘s a lot more snow on that side!

your right, a 2wd could handle it easily, i just hate washboard roads, period.
