Left Barr Trail TH at 11:45pm on Saturday night
Arrived Barr Camp just shy of three hours later around 2:30am
Arrived A-Frame at 4:00am (laid down to take a 20min power nap)
Arrived summit at 6:30am
Back to TH at 1:00pm on Sunday afternoon
Figuring a 1am wake up call in Denver wouldn't provide all that great of a night's sleep, we decided to just get started the night before. So we hit the TH at 11:45pm on Saturday night.
It was a gorgeous night and we experienced the best weather in our first five hours in the dark, it got foggy and began snowing just after sunrise. We had fog and snow at the summit, with the snow not letting up until just before the A-Frame on the way back down. Once we hit Barr Camp on our way back down we changed into shorts.
The sunrise from just about 1-mile from the summit was worth the price of admission. Gorgeous! I'm so glad the clouds rolled in after the sunrise. Wouldn't have wanted to miss that.
This was 14er #18 and after all of the jokes I've made about buying a souvenir spoon and a funnel cake at the top, one of my favorites. The Barr Trail is gorgeous from beginning to end. It's a very easy trail to follow and never gets too steep, it's a very gradual incline, it's just long. 13 hours round trip. Sad to say I did not get my souvenir spoon or my funnel cake. We arrived to a cold and windy summit at 6:45am, an hour and 15 minutes before the gift shop opens. We weren't about to wait around. Best I could do was a picture through the window.
Here's a look back on our accomplishment from down below. And of course, once we left the summit...so did the snow and fog

Awesome, what fun to combine a night hike and a sunrise. I heartily endorse doing Pikes via the Barr trail in one day for those that can handle it. 26 miles RT and 7,000 plus vert feet is something you can‘t match on most peaks. I‘ll never forget the day I did it.
