 ELBERT! Northeast slopes

So we headed up to the mountain after staying at a cabin in evergreen and got to the trailhead at about 6:30 a.m. It was brisk but very clear and beautiful. We headed up the trail and it was wet and muddy in some areas from snowmelt but nothing too bad.
We stopped for a much needed stretch break about 30 minutes into the hike, then continued on. We hit snow at about 11,000 feet probably and it continued until treeline, but the trail was well defined through the snow and it was easy to navigate. It was a beautiful and clear hike past the treeline with occasional snow patches which were also not bad. We were pumped because the view was insane. After encountering some friendly marmots we started gettin‘ to the really steep part with snow. It was windy and cold but very clear and awesome. Finally we made it to the top at about 11. Hung out with a skier guy who had a dog. We then headed down and took a glorious nap below treeline before making it back to the car.
It was a great day with gorgeous views, curious marmots, and much adventure. I would highly recommend this hike, it was awesome. Do it.
