| Quandary - Snow Report |
Just got back from hiking Quandary (stopped in Frisco for the BBQ festival). Very mellow hike. Definitely one of the easier 14‘ers (I‘ve hiked 10). I am posting this report because I was unsure as to the snow conditions. and thought others may appreciate an update. While there is still a lot of snow, it is not very deep. We got a late start (hit the trail at 9:30 AM). We summited a little before 12:30 PM. Even though the snow was getting soft, I did not posthole one time. I weigh about 185 pounds. You could take crampons, but I wouldn‘t waste my time with snowshoes. I would take gators to keep the snow out of your boots on the decent. I had them and my feet stayed completely dry while my two companions did not have them and got very wet feet. A few people were skiing down today, but it is a very short distance you can ski down, so I don‘t think it is worth the effort of carrying skis or a snowboard. We tied our jackets around our wastes and hauled a** sledding to the bottom. All in all a very mellow day. Several first time 14er climbers on the peak today and they had no problems. Only incident was when Horton, who is a dog that lives in a house below the trailhead and hikes the peak with no human companionship, tried to mount my friend‘s dog, who, being male, took great offense.
