 bierstadt, main route

on trail by 7 am. might be a good idea to leave earlier, like 6 am, or 6.30 latest-otherwise the sun will be IN YOUR FACE LIKE THIS for the better part of an hour. i you leave earlier than i did the sun will be behind the ridge and won‘t bother you at this time of year. i was up to the summit by 9am, 1 hour on peak (too long), and then back down in 1.5 hours (i practically ran). clouds rolled in on the way down, but i didn‘t stick around to find out if it rained...50 degrees F at the summit at 9am, so take a windbreaker! stellar conditions, i can say though that the final pitch along the ridge still has some snow on it, but it‘s hardened up so there‘s no postholing. i suggest sticking to the left of the snowfield and scrambling up. see picture. better than sliding on the snow! note the sawtooth still has a bit of snow on it as well to the south, i opted out of that route as i didn‘t have a map and didn‘t want to get lost...

Did this hike today. Only 20 feet of snow to walk over at the parking lot and the rest of the trail was clear (as long as you stay left up the homestretch). Ace
